Little can be found of this work in reference materials. It seems to have no mention in Vincent's letters but does have a solid provenance that tells us it surely is a van Gogh. Vincent did paint animals many times, and as the weather was getting cold with winter approaching, perhaps these rats provided models that were always difficult to find.
